We are seeking a Bookkeeper with highly organized skills, attention to detail, and accuracy in handling data to directly support the lab’s financial aspects by handling a diverse range of tasks to manage taxation and other financial documentation requirements from the Japanese government to sustain the business and its continued development.

This is a full-time, hybrid role at Cross Labs. The bookkeeper will be responsible for handling research grants, day-to-day financial tasks, preparing financial reports, and analyzing financial data. The office is based in Kyoto, but hybrid work is possible. You will directly support the Labs’ financial bookkeeping by handling a wide range of office responsibilities including translating and interpreting tax filing and reporting documents and conversations, designing and maintaining a complex filing system, general financial record keeping, compiling taxation and financial reports, accounting, and bookkeeping. Part-time and hourly positions are possible as well.

Ideal Skills

  • Certification in The Official Business Skills Test in Bookkeeping (日商簿記)
  • Knowledge of applicable Japanese accounting regulations and standards
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems
  • Fluent in both English and Japanese
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial data
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential financial information
  • Knowledge of research grant processing and handling
  • Ability to communicate with both research scientists and executive-level management
  • Experience in financial analysis and reporting; business or academic accounting
  • Ability to be proactive and take the initiative
  • Tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • A keen interest in or broad knowledge of AI technology is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work with your mentor to lay out the scope of your project, including checkpoint goals
  • Work with other members of the lab to learn, grow, and explore new ideas
  • Be flexible in your approach to your project, since you never know how new discoveries will change your goals!
  • Regularly communicate with your mentor and collaborators about your progress and ideas
  • Join weekly lab meetings and monthly events
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions, try new things, and get involved with other projects!
  • Share the results of your project in the form of a blog post and presentation (and possibly a paper) at the end of your internship
